Pearl and CZ
The only elements of a Jo Thorne piece that originate overseas are pearls, cabochons made from Mother of Pearl, or stones such as Cubic Zirconia. These are sourced from a long established London gem dealer, a family firm with ethical trade links to their Far East suppliers. The stones are manufactured and cut to the highest tolerances, and the factories where they are made treat their workers fairly, without exploitation.
The Truth about Swarovski, Signity and Cubic Zirconia
We are often asked if our stones are Swarovski, but it seems many people are not completely sure what Swarovski really is. Swarovski is simply a brand name for Austrian cut lead crystal – we don’t use cut lead crystal in our designs.
Swarovski also produce Signity, a brand name for high grade Cubic Zirconia cut using Swarovski-approved machinery. The Signity brand name carries a price premium with no corresponding increase in stone quality over unbranded high grade CZ.
We simply use the very highest grade CZ in our hair jewellery, optically so close to genuine diamond that only a trained eye can tell the difference.
