Sterling Silver Tiaras and Wedding Hair Accessories - An Encounter with the Butler Traditional silversmithing and metalworking techniques are used to make and finish each piece. Apart from its intrinsic value and feeling of preciousness, silver can arguably be the most beautiful of metals – a tendency to oxidise gives it an antique feel, and if used with skill and care this can create a very special mood and character. The silver is polished by hand to what is known as a “butler” finish, so called because it simulates the look that was achieved by the butler in wealthy households, where repeated and prolonged hand polishing resulted in a slightly deadened "bright" finish with a deep lustre. Jo has a unique hallmark that identifies her as the designer – the mark is an important 700-year-old tradition that guarantees purity, and makes every piece of silver or gold jewellery traceable for current and future generations. |
